Police in Winnipeg are asking for witnesses to come forward after two collisions between vehicles and pedestrians resulted in the deaths of two people.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the first call came on Friday, January 5, at 4 p.m. at Reenders Drive and Stapon Road.

The WPS says in a release that a 70-year-old woman was struck by a truck while crossing the street. Police say the woman had been in a minor vehicle collision before that and was crossing the roadway after exchanging information with the driver of the other vehicle.

The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The 59-year-old driver of the truck remained at the scene, and police continue to investigate.

Then, early Saturday morning, police were called to the 500 block of Notre Dame Avenue for another collision involving a vehicle and a person.

The WPS says that their investigation shows that a 56-year-old male driver of an Infiniti QX60 attended a carwash and entered via the overhead garage door. It was at this time the driver struck a pedestrian who is believed to have been lying near the entrance. The pedestrian, a 48-year-old male, was transported to hospital in critical condition and later pronounced deceased.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Traffic Division.

Police are asking that anyone with information for either incident, including video or dash camera video footage regarding this incident, to contact Traffic Division investigators at 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
