While two people were able to escape, another two people perished in a house fire on a northern Manitoba First Nation Thursday morning.

Emergency crews and the RCMP were called to the home on Cross Lake First Nation just before 4 a.m., the RCMP says in a release.

Within minutes, officers were at the scene, and the home in the Natamik 1 area, was completely engulfed in flames.

The local fire department attended and extinguished the fire.

The initial investigation indicates that there were four adults inside the home when the fire occurred.  Two people got out safely and two people were later found inside the home, deceased.

No information on the deceased has been provided at this time.

Cross Lake RCMP, the Forensic Identification Services and the Office of the Fire Commissioner, continue to investigate.
