Rainfall and wind warnings remain in effect for Portage la Prairie and surrounding communities. 

Between 8 p.m. last night and 4 a.m., Environment and Climate Change Canada recorded wind gusts ranging from 60 to 82 kilometres per hour. In the 5 a.m. hour, gusts reached 94 km/hr, and in the 6 a.m. hour, we saw gusts reach 100 km/hr.

There are roughly 100 smaller power outages being reported in and around Portage la Prairie affecting over a thousand customers. As of 7 a.m., Manitoba Hydro reported over 300 in the province affecting more than 10,000 customers. But by 7:30, that number was over 400 and close to 13,000.

The Southport weather station recorded 28.4 millimetres of rain yesterday.

Strong winds are expected to last until this afternoon. Precipitation-wise, the heavy rain may not stop until this afternoon.
