A 20-year-old man from British Columbia is dead following a multi-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway Sunday afternoon.

The RCMP says they and emergency personnel responded to reports of a collision involving three vehicles and a semi around 4:30 p.m., two kilometres west of the Falcon Lake exit on Highway 1.

STARS air ambulance had been dispatched to the scene but was told to stand down before arriving.

In a release, the RCMP says that officers believe a car being driven by the 20-year-old from Prince George, B.C., was travelling east when it veered into oncoming traffic after negotiating a curve.

His vehicle then struck a pickup truck, before colliding with a westbound semi. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The RCMP says that no other injuries were reported.

Traffic was closed in both directions for several hours while emergency crews responded and police investigated. The RCMP are continuing with the investigation.
