Police say a traffic stop in the William Whyte neighbourhood required more than a police car to pursue a stolen truck.

On Tuesday night, at 11:25 p.m on McGregor Street and Manitoba Avenue, a Winnipeg Police Service patrol unit noticed a truck that was reported as stolen.

Officers began to conduct a traffic stop, but instead, the vehicle fled. Speeding away, officers began a pursuit.

The District 3 unit was then aided by AIR1, the WPS helicopter.

A short time later, the vehicle and suspect were found close to where the chase began, in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.

A 32-year-old Winnipeg man is facing the following charges from the WPS:

  • Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Flight While Pursued by Police
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
